Zimbabwe and Libya have pulled out of the Cecafa senior challenge Tournament that commences on December 3 in Machakos.
Both teams have cited insecurity as reasons for withdrawing from the tournament.
“Following wide consultations with all stakeholders, the Zimbabwe Football Association has resolved to withdraw its commitment to participate in the Cecafa Challenge Cup due to the security risk posed by the volatile situation in the host country, Kenya,” read a statement released by football association of Zimbabwe.
The association however maintained that it was committed to its mandate of organizing competitive matches for all national teams, at the same time ensuring the safety of everyone participating.
However the Cecafa secretary general Nicholas Musonye has disregarded Zimbabwe’s excuse to withdraw saying that Kenya was loosing nothing by the withdrawal and that they should have said earlier if they lacked transport to come to the venue.

‘We are loosing nothing from the withdrawal. They are playing tricks,if they didn’t have money for transport they should have informed us’ Nicholas Musonye said.
The withdrawal leaves pool ‘B’ with Uganda, Ethiopia, Burundi and South Sudan.
