Gloves are off and the mobile operators seem to be so determined to end the Safaricom dominance. Orange initiated this by pulling one of the biggest coup in the market. Orange managed to convince the biggest distributor of the dominant player to join its network of distributors. Zain is following suit by now openly attacking Safaricom with the line “Going Green is not always the Better Option”.
Green is Safaricom’s colour and “The Better Option” is Safaricom tagline. I don’t know what is waking the operators but the market is now at the disadvantage of the consumer. Zain has launched a cross network call rate of Ksh 3 and intra-network rate of Ksh 1. That is game now.
It would be interesting to hear what Safaricom is saying but for now the consumer must be ROFL……….
Zain new tariff is permanent and not an offer. If you have noticed, there is a major presence of Zain sales ladies on the street lately and they are equiped with phones where they can automatically register the subscribers as per the rules of CCK. I met some along Langata road yesterday and today I have seen many in BuruBuru and Jogoo Road.

The WAR is on indeed! At least there is competition already. The consumer is to benefit and it’s fun to live in a country where top brands show such competition.
I hope the same will apply to all day to day products and services.

Huuuh. I hope the same will be replicated by the same companies in the data services.
The following two statements appear to be erroneous
1. Safaricom managed to convince the biggest distributor of the dominant player to join its network of distributors.
2.Zain has launched a cross network call rate of Ksh 3 and intra-network rate of Ksh 1.
It is writtent Orange managed to convince and it is true Zain is charging 3 bob to other networks and 1 bob for intra network calls
for all it takes am amased and am rejocing!!
What do you mean …the market is now at the disadvantage of the consumer….. ? hizi ndovu mbili zikipiganana nyasi inanawili!

The call rates and cost of internet access are still very high compared to what they pay to get the service. The operators still make more than 600% profit on internet charges

The ‘Fahali wawili’ saying goes the other way round in this case. I can’t stop calling!

I have always wondered this. when I was in India, I found out that the operators there charge 1 rupee per minute. This translates to Kshs 2 per minute. India is a third world country like Kenya and that is where Barhti comes from. We are finally getting value for our money in telecommunications industry with this trend. CCK needs to nullify the exorbitant and baseless high interconnection charges to help in improving penetration. I will seek an audience with the new Zain owners and personally congratulate them.
