A woman was on Friday handed a six month jail sentence after she was found to have deliberately refused to refund Sh27,140 sent to her via M-Pesa.
The court ruled that Margaret Njeri serves six months in jail or pays a Sh40,000 fine.
Njeri is said to have received the money from Richard Mbui from Embu county. He told the court that he sent her (Njeri) money to purchase fertilizer which she claimed was on limited stock.
Mr Mbui also claimed that she switched of her phone after which he reported the matter at Itabua Police station.

She was arraigned in court on December, 13 before Embu Resident Magistrate Julian Ndengeri who postponed the ruling for Friday to allow more time for investigations.
