A woman on Tuesday lost her life at Roysambu MP Ndirangu Waihenya’s office as she sought bursary for her daughter.
Four others sustained serious injuries in the stampede.
The deceased succumbed to her injuries as soon as she reached Ridgeways Hospital while the injured were rushed to Neema Hospital and Kenyatta National Hospital.
The legislator explained that the stampede was caused by a number of unruly youths who camped outside his office from the wee hours of the morning.
“I send my condolences to the families that have lost their loved ones and also wish the ones in hospital quick recovery,” Waihenya said.
Witnesses said that the pushing started as soon as the lawmaker made way into his office and ordered for the gates to be opened.
“There was a stampede at the entrance of the office, people were pushing their ways through,” James Kamau is quoted by Nairobi News.
Another said that they escaped death by a whisker after others helped her up.
