The students lit bonfires barricading roads leading to the campus.
SONU Chairman, Jamal Shah is said to have attacked a KTN News reporter during an interview.
The journalist questioned how the students would march to the Parklands Police station where the legislator was being held on Friday.
”From today to Friday or the day that Babu is released we will not quit our protests,” Shah said.
”What do you mean going to… We are peacefully demonstrating in front of the campus, on our road. You know the problem with media personalities is that they have been brainwashed, like you. You are the one going to tell people out there that comrades are not peaceful,” the chairman said with a snap.
The first time MP was arrested outside Parliament buildings by flying squad officers. He was charged with ‘harboring an intention to overthrow the government and assault.’
Babu reckons that his arrest was a ploy by the Jubilee government through his rival, Francis Mureithi and a senior officer to sabotage his leadership.
”My arrest is as a result of a deep conspiracy involving Jubilee govt , Mr Francis Mureithi and Director of Criminal Investigations Nairobi County Mr Kamwende on realisation that we are going to win the petition against my victory on 8/8/2017. Mr Kamwende who is in charge of CID operations in Nairobi is acting under orders from Statehouse having received a bribe of Ksh 200 000 from my former opponent Mr Francis Mureithi at Sankara Hotel at around 3:30PM today!” Babu said.
