Police spokesperson Charles Owino has said that it is not unusual for bodyguards to carry handbags belonging to their female bosses.
He defended the female Cabinet Secretaries saying that they do not force their bodyguards to carry their handbags.
Two weeks ago, CS Sicily Kariuki’s bodyguard was spotted carrying her handbag, something that got the interwebs buzzing.
Kenyans online thought it was improper for the VIPs to make their male bodyguards carry their bags.
In the CS’s defense, the Police spokesperson noted: ”If you can guard someones body what is wrong with carrying their handbags?”
He asked Kenyans to refrain from discriminating against women saying that it would not have caused an uproar could it have been a woman carrying a man’s briefcase.

The bodyguards have however in the past complained of harassment; verbal abuse and working for long hours without compensation.
CS Raychelle Omamo’s bodyguard was in the recent past also spotted carrying her handbag.
