President Uhuru Kenyatta will not be attending the Presidential debate on 24 July but will instead hold a live town hall meeting, reports the Star.

The President wants to wrap up his campaigns by talking directly to the people like he did during the Jubilee party manifesto launch.

It is believed that in this way he will connect with a lot more people than the debate organized by the Debates Media Limited.

”The President is not interested in a competition of words with his competitors. He wants to answer questions directly like he did at the Jubilee Party manifesto launch,” a source told the local daily.

According to the daily, the UhuRuto duo will pay for three hours of airtime where the two will engage the audience directly and through an SMS platform and social media as well.

The date and venue are yet to be disclosed.

According to PSCU Communications Director, Dennis Itumbi’s tweet, this might just be Uhuru Kenyatta’s way of engaging Kenyans directly in their homes and markets.

William Ruto, Deputy President, did not show up to the Running Mate Debate that was held on 17 July. He said that he was not informed of there being a debate and only learned about it through a news alert.

Raila Odinga, NASA Presidential candidate, had confirmed his attendance but he might as well change his mind now that his main competitor will be a no show.
