NASA Presidential candidate Raila Odinga has accused the government of administering in 2014 a tetanus vaccine that is causing infertility in women.
The vaccine was according to the Catholic church illegal and could cause permanent infertility among women and girls.
In his address, Odinga said that the Church was right in its findings.
”We can confirm that the Catholic church was right. Hundreds of thousands of our girls and women aged between 14 and 49 will not have children because of the State-sponsored sterilization that was sold to the country as tetanus vaccine.”
The former Prime Minister said the vaccine has undergone vigorous tests and was found to contain high contents of a hormone that causes sterility in women.
The Catholic Church has said that 500,000 women and girls vaccinated will not give birth. Odinga has said that the vaccine was one of the most ‘callous human rights abuses.’
Odinga wants the State to apologize to the people affected saying the vaccination was a deliberate move by the government.
He has assured Kenyans that his government should he win the October polls, would set up a task force that would see the victims compensated and initiate ways of reversing the damage.
