The Teachers Service Commission(TSC) has reshuffled Principals around the country in a move to delocalize the administration of public schools. Over 500 Principals have been moved from their local regions to other regions in the country.
According to Education News, Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT), Nandi Central Branch threatened industrial action if the TSC does not abandon the teacher delocalization policy.
They stated that the move was not in the best interest of teachers and argue that it will separate them from their families. Another argument was that the move violates the constitution reiterating that public participation was not done on the new policy before its implementation.
The reshuffling is part of the agreements in the Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA) signed between the TSC and teachers’ unions that seeks to improve cohesion and encourage appreciation of the country’s diverse cultures.
