University Students To Hold Vigils In Memory Of Slain “Comrade” Ivy Wangechi

University students will starting today (Friday) hold vigils in various campuses in honour of slain medical student Ivy Wangechi.

According to a local daily, University of Nairobi, Moi University-Eldoret, Technical University of Kenya, Daystar, Catholic University of East Africa (CUEA) students will show up for the vigil that will start at 4 PM.

Human Rights activist Florence Kanywa told the daily that the vigils will be held until she is laid to rest and a final mass vigil a day before her funeral.

The sixth year medical student died due to excess bleeding after sustaining two deep cuts on the left side of the neck.

She was killed by her alleged stalker and family friend Naftali Njahi Kinuthia on Tuesday outside the hospital.

Kinuthia who is still undergoing treatment at the same hospital under heavy police presence has since admitted to killing Wangechi who was going to celebrate her 25th birthday the next day.

According to him, he had invested money and time into the deceased who did not reciprocate.

His mother, has since told the media that the SportPesa employee had last year confessed to being in an abusive relationship. She, as any mother would do, advised him to cut ties with the woman.

She is shocked that her calm and collected son killed Wangechi, his childhood friend.

Police say that he will face murder charges once he is in a stable condition.

Yesterday, her remains were moved from Eldoret to Kenyatta University funeral home awaiting burial.
