Varsity students have decried the poor state of the education system and rot that is the Kenya higher learning institutions.
Using the hashtag #MasaibuCampus students have highlighted their plight while seeking a brighter and better future that is provided by earning an education.
Through the hashtag, students have share how some of them take almost seven years to take a four-year degree course and how sexually transmitted grades is hurting genuine students who want to work hard for their marks and undermining those who actually put in effort in their work.
A lot of corruption, tribalism and unnecessary fee increments is involved before a normal student gets proper services.
The situation is dire because the institutions have become money minting machines only interested in making profits in place of ‘keys to success.’
According to a letter seen by Kahawa Tungu, Machakos University students were sent packing by the institution’s management for demonstrating against illegal fees increment.
The institution will readmit the 3rd and 2nd Year students on October 29, 30 respectively.
Technical University of Kenya students previously Kenya Polytechnic, have stated that the management at some point stopped them from sitting for their exams only to later be charged Sh1,500 for every exam missed.
In some schools, classes are overcrowded, for example you would find an accounting class that is supposed to host 50 students has up to 300 students, being taught by one lecturer and only offering seats for a few of them at Moi University.
