Starehe constituency ODM candidate Steve Mbogo was charged in court defrauding a business partner a sum of Sh. 100 million.
The complainant said that he was introduced to the business deal for the sale of gold by a friend but later lost his money. Steve Mbogo was arrested and arraigned alongside his business partners James Munyua Kinyanjui and Rashid Ishmael Patel on January 22 at the Parklands area.
The police had requested that the three be detained at the Kileleshwa police station to give room for investigations but the magistrate declined the application stating that the police had gathered enough evidence to have the charged.
Steve Mbogo and his partners were represented by lawyer Edwin Sifuna who asked the court to give Mbogo anticipatory bail pending arrest.
Police said that they caught the three with imitated gold pellets which they had sent to geologists for further investigation. The police confiscated their mobile phone and are in pursuit of three other suspects that they believe were part of the scam.
