The board of St Mary’s Mission Hospital has suddenly resigned due to financial mismanagement at the institution.
Kahawa Tungu has learnt that the resignations were rendered in quick successions, with seven members leaving.
The team that resigned was led by their chairman Engineer Francis Kimani.
The others included: Mr Lawrence Omonyo who is a Quantity Surveyor and a Lawyer working with Catholic Arch-Diocese of Nairobi, Ms Wangari Wahome a procurement specialist with United Nations and was heading procurement function in the board as well as Father Moses Kago who was representing the Cardinal and the Catholic Church.
Professor Judith Mbula of University of Nairobi, Mrs Gladys Ogallo a renowned HR specialist and advisor to several Catholic Mission Projects also left.
Robert Shibutse a respected financial management guru was heading the finance functions in the Board.
According to reports, the resignations were tendered between 28 and 30 January 2019.
However, it is also reported that Sr Bernadette convinced four of the board members to remain.
Before the seven rendered their resignations, there had been emergency night meetings which were intended to iron out the pending issues that were causing squabbles among the board members.
The board members also blamed the management of the institution of illegal HR and procurement practices and had asked the superior general for the Hospital Board to accept liability of the monies withdrawn and illegally spent from Prime Bank and GT Bank.
However, the Superior General vehemently refused causing some of the members to walk out.

Following the abrupt resignation of the seven members, the Superior General allegedly constituted another board without following the due consultations and procedures.
The new board now consists of the following: Anthony Musyoki Mbandi, Board Chairman, Dr Peter Kilonzo, Chairman Finance Committee, Sr Christine Kagunye, Jacinta Mutegi who will serve as the Catholic Church representative and Kristine O. Oraro who will be the legal advisor.
It is alleged that the superior general has picked on those new members because of their tribal associations who in turn will assure her of majority support for her strategies.
Stakeholders now want the government to investigate the institution, expose the culprits for misappropriation of funds and action to be taken against them.
