Kenya’s main stadium, Moi International Sports Center Kasarani, recently underwent renovations that reportedly cost Ksh500 million majorly on its playing surface.
French company, Gregory International that was handed the work delivered a pristine pitch that has captured imaginations of observing public who heaped praises on Sports Kenya for a job well done.
What they may not know howEver is that the particular work on the pitch was paid for by gaming firm Sportpesa, who were racing against time to get the facility ready for an international friendly between Hull City and Gor Mahia.
The other general work that was to be done by Sports Kenya, the body mandated by Kenyans to take care of their stadiums, seems to have been abandoned.
There is absolutely nothing to show that the budget that the government approved to help get the facility ready to host the 2018 CHAN was put to good use.
Social amenities like toilets within the facility are in a pathetic state, drainage system is clogged with plastic bottles and the seats are dusty and some broken.

It is only safe to conclude that once CAF took CHAN hosting rights from Kenya for unpreparedness, Sports Kenya also abandoned the work they were supposed to undertake.
Sports Kenya charges clubs like Gor Mahia up-to Ksh300,000 to host a single game. The Kenyan champions have so far played three international matches there.
