A nominated female MCA has accused Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko’s bodyguard of physically assaulting her on Tuesday.
Mary Mwami says that the bodyguard, identified as Jamal ‘jumped on my neck, pulled me and threw me on the ground.’
“I am a person with disability. By the time he left, I noticed he had roughed me up to the point where my bra was torn,” the ODM nominated MCA told reporters on Wednesday.
She also claims that the governor verbally attacked her as she made her way into city hall. Sonko, she says accused her of disrespecting his ‘people.’
“As I entered his office, Sonko shouted at me saying Wewe mama tuheshimiane, unatukana watu wangu (Woman, lets respect each other…you are abusing my people),” she said.
To avoid further confrontation, Ms Mwami tried to leave in the company of security guards when Jamal pounced on her.
“As I was leaving Sonko’s office, a bodyguard famously known as Jamal confronted me on claims I abused the Governor and his people,” she added.
Confirming the incident, Central OCPD Robinson Thuku said the county assembly representative reported the incident on Tuesday night.

“She recorded a statement under OB/155/ at 9pm,” Thuku told one of the dailies on the phone on Thursday.
“If the medical tests prove she was assaulted, we will take action and arrest the accused.”
Sonko’s communication team has however denied there being any drama at the city hall on the said day.
