Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe has criticized socialite Zodwa Wabantu for her lack of putting on underwear.

Speaking at a rally in Bindura on Saturday, the President acknowledged his decision to ban Zodwa from performing at the Harare International Carnival in August made him a ‘killjoy.’

“I’m sorry we disappointed many men.You just come without covering your decency. What do you want? Men to see you? We don’t want such,” he said.

The socialite on Monday told TshisaLIVE said her performance was cancelled due to ‘political games.’

“The show was cancelled at the last moment. They said I must tell everyone that I am sick and they would send me money to cover the trouble. It’s a political thing. It was politics behind closed doors because apparently people were protesting that they want me to perform and sponsors were pulling out of the event because reports about me were drawing too much (negative) attention to the event,” she said.

A prominent political activist, Josphat Ngulube said the country had a lot of things going wrong but ‘suddenly someone is asking about Zodwa and it becomes a matter of national interest.’

Ms Wabantu was supposed to perform alongside Lingala musician Werrason together with Brazilian and Cuban dancers on September 6.

She was required to perform with panties on but she declined saying she was unwilling to ‘compromise her brand.’
