Siaya Senator James Orengo has recently been the talk of town after his recent remarks on sponsoring a motion to impeach Deputy President William Ruto.
The remarks have since elicited a sharp criticism from leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto and their scribes.
Speaking in Ugenya constituency, where he hails from, the senator accused the Deputy President of being at the centre of every corruption case in the county.
Notably, Orengo, with the rank of a Senior Council in the judicial corridors , was recently hired by former Jubilee Party vice chairman David Murathe in his battle against Ruto’s 2022 presidential ambitions, proving the assertion that Orengo is determined to fight the DP at any given opportunity.
However, as his fight against the DP takes a new twist everyday, of concern is the humiliating state of schools in his county where he’s charged with the oversight role as a senator.
To the senior counsel, the saying charity begins at home seems to be just but a statement.
Kirind Primary School in Ugenya constituency, is a school in need.
The seemingly long forgotten school, paints a picture of a failed leadership in Siaya county.
The old earth structures, fitted with rusty iron sheets seems to be the only hope to the pupils who attend the school; at least they have a shade on their heads.

Furthermore, lack of basic facilities in the institution such as desks and other learning resources seems to be a complete luxury according to the county leadership.
Needless to say, the lawyer cum politician was a Member of Parliament for Ugenya constituency for more than 30 years, however, many schools in the constituency just like Kirind primary, lack basic learning resources.
At the age of 29, Orengo was first elected as member of Parliament for the constituency in 1980 after a by election, making him the youngest Kenyan MP.
Whereas the writer acknowledges that Senator Orengo’s days as an MP are long gone and he is not directly involved in development, his oversight role in the county seems to be missing.
As a senator, Orengo, owes development to his county especially to the poor learners suffering under his watch.
He has the responsibility of protecting the interests of his county and the country at large.
This includes holding his governor Cornel Rasanga and Ugenya constituency leadership accountable on management of County Development Funds (CDF), instead of engaging in unhealthy fights.
