A section of leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto were on Friday morning blocked from seeing retired President Daniel Arap Moi at his Kabarak home.

The leaders led by Senate Speaker Kenneth Lusaka arrived at Moi’s home to condole with him following the death of his son Jonathan Moi.

Others who joined Lusaka were Baringo Governor Stanley Kiptis, Kakamega counterpart Wycliffe Oparanya ,senators Susan Kihika (Nakuru) and James Orengo (Siaya).

Reports indicate the leaders only managed to meet Moi’s family, but were denied a one-on-one meeting with the retired head of state.

Reports indicate Senator Gideon Moi had earlier disapproved the coming of Kiptis and Kihika, both close allies of Ruto.

Their visit prompted him to block all leaders from meeting mzee Moi.

On Thursday, all leaders who visited Moi’s residence managed to see the former president.

Mzee Moi received a number of guests including former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka, Chief Justice David Maraga and Kitui Senator Enoch Kiio Wambua.

Others include trade unionist Francis Atwoli and Kenya Film and Classification Board (KFCB) CEO Ezekiel Mutua.

The leaders’ visit came a day after DP Ruto was reportedly turned away from meeting Moi, prompting him to change route to the late Jonathan’s Kabimoi home.

The developments have often been linked to the 2022 Presidential ambitions of DP Ruto and Moi’s son Gideon.

On Tuesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta personally conveyed his condolences to the Moi family, in Kabarak.

Jonathan Moi’s death was reported on Saturday.

He succumbed to pancreatic cancer at a Nakuru hospital.
