Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine’s arrest has caused an uproar from around the world as everyone is calling for his immediate release.
Protests have been held in Kenya, Uganda, UK.
Kenyans at the Busia border blocked roads entering Uganda preventing all trucks and buses from accessing the country, over the weekend.
Different prominent figures such as Robert Alai, Boniface Mwangi and MPs Babu Owino and Charles “Jaguar” Kanyi have shared their voices and called for the musician turned politician’s immediate release.
Fellow artists such as Angelique Kidjo, Coldplay’s Chris Martin and Damon Albarn have signed a petition started by Rikki Stein, the former manager for Nigerian music legend Fela Kuti, to condemn the inhumane treatment of the artist while in custody.
Others who have signed the petition include Nigerian Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka, U2 bassist Adam Clayton, The Pretenders lead singer Chrissie Hynde and Genesis lead singer Peter Gabriel.
Bobi Wine joins the likes of Fela Kuti who was a fearless critic of Nigeria’s military regimes during his lifetime.
