Angry residents of Gataka in Ongata Rongai on Tuesday morning torched a truck after its driver ran over a four-year-old boy en route to school.
Reports indicate the boy, who schools at Nkaimurunya Primary School, died on the spot.
However, his 12-year-old brother, who was in his company, escaped unhurt.
Police officers, who arrived at the scene, had a rough time controlling the agitated crowd baying for the driver’s blood.
However, the police came to his rescue.
Thereafter, the crowd descended on the truck, torching it.

Kajiado County Commissioner Tom Ajere confirmed the incident, saying the driver will be arraigned in court on Wednesday.
The officer urged residents and drivers to adhere to road regulations.
“We are urging parents to ensure their children are accompanied by an adult to school. Motorists should also exercise caution and drive carefully,” Ajere said.
The wreckage of the truck was moved to a local police station, as police launch a search for its owner.
