Opposition Chief Raila Odinga met and discussed “how to elevate African football” with ex-Swiss international Roman Vega at his Capitol Hill office in Nairobi Monday.

“He is in the country to familiarize himself with the state of Kenyan football,” a statement from the former Prime Minister’s press office reads.

In his heydays, Vega played for among others Grasshoppers, Tottenham Hotspur, Celtic and Watford.

The 47-year-old was capped 23 times and featured for Switzerland in the 1996 UEFA Euro.

Vega, who studied a degree in banking and financing, ventured into business after quitting football in 2004 at age 33.

He became a founding member of the Duet Group, a financial group specializing in asset management and private equity.

In 2006 Vega he also founded the Matterhorn Capital Rosalp, a Swiss real estate company focusing on development of luxury hotels worldwide.

He also opened “Roman Vega’s Soccer School” in Marbella, Spain, a country of his roots.

Vega unsuccessfully bid to buy former Premier League team Portsmouth as he failed to demonstrate an ability to secure financing for his proposal.
