Wiper leader and NASA co-principal Kalonzo Musyoka demystified the role of NASA and the opposition in the current set up after the handshake.
He defended his support for the 8% VAT levy on fuel saying that it was the only way to secure development for Kenya.
He said that despite what his other co principal Moses Wetangula had said NASA was still in existence and all that needed to happen was a meeting to iron out issues that may have arisen as a result of the handshake.
Kalonzo said that he still wants the IEBC to be reconstituted and that they needed urgent reforms. He said that he stood by electoral reforms.
On the issue of the DCJ Philomena Mwilu he said that he chose to defend her because the matter was weighty and believed that her arrest and prosecution was unfair and ought to be handled differently.
He also stated that he had contacted the President Uhuru Kenyatta who attempted to stop the arrest by contacting the Attorney General and the Chief Justice before the arrest.
“I had to speak to the president about it. He actually knew about the arrest of DCJ when he was away meeting Trump and he actually made every attempt to say “this can not proceed…” and even tried to reach out to the Attorney General for him to reach out to the Chief Justice,” Kalonzo stated.
The Wiper leader said that he stood for justice and the independence of the Judiciary and that is why he opted to go on record for the Deputy chief Justice.
Kalonzo said that he did not support the swearing in because he believed that it would not be constitutional. He said that even Raila Odinga knew that he would take the oath alone and that the swearing in was misadvised.
