A police inspector was killed, three others severely injured and two children were abducted in Samburu North sub county.
According to the Samburu County Police Commander Karanja Muiruri, the deceased, was leading his colleagues in an operation aimed to recover livestock that was stolen at Suyian village.
Officer Karanja divulged that the officers had already recovered 50 herds of cattle when the officers were attacked by the cattle rustlers.
The rustlers then kidnapped the children, a boy and a girl who are 10 and 11 respectively.
Following the ambush, there arose a gunfire exchange where the police inspector was shot dead.

The injured officers were later admitted at Samburu County Referral Hospital in Maralal town.
The deceased’s body was kept at the same hospital’s mortuary.
According to Medical Superintendent at the hospital Dr Silas Lodoke, the victims who sustained injuries have been attended to by doctors and are expected to be referred to Nairobi for special treatment.
Commander Karanja concluded by affirming that despite having not arrested any of the rustlers, they were able to rescue the two children at Suyian village.
