Suna East MP, Junet Mohamed could face jail term after the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) asked Senior Principal Magistrate Susan Ndegwa for more time to look for him for skipping court summonses.
The minority chief whip in the national assembly has been missing court appearances for a case he was charged in July, 2017.
Patrick Kibowen, a criminal investigations officer appearing on behalf of Joseph Tuksho (Homabay Director of CID) told the court that the office of the DCI was not aware that the court had issued a warrant of arrest for the legislator.
”Mr Tuksho has not been aware that the court issued warrant of arrest to Suna East MP Junet Mohammed,” Mr Kibowen told the court.
”We ask for more time to enable us arrest Mr Junet,”he added.
Junet was charged with ethnic contempt for making inflammatory remarks during an ODM meeting in Homa Bay town.
He is said to have asked Mombasa Governor, Hassan Joho to prepare Makaburini grounds for NASA leader, Raila Odinga’s swearing in ceremony as president for some communities except the Kikuyu.

”Yesterday I told Governor Joho that before coming to Homa Bay, he ensures he has prepared Makaburini grounds in Mombasa so that we can go there and have Raila sworn in as the president for Mombasa, Nyanza, Western and North Eastern,” he said.
The legislator was arrested and later on released on a Sh100,000 bail or Sh500,000 bond. He was set to appear in court on October 24, but was a no-show.
The case will be mentioned on 11 January, 2018.
