A man reported to be an administration police officer in plain clothes caused a security panic at Kericho’s Green Stadium after a Kenyan Premier League tie pitting Zoo FC and Bandari.
The man said to be a former Chemelil FC and Zoo goalkeeper but now a police officer invaded the pitch at the final whistle to allegedly “intervene” in a scuffle involving the two opposing players.
However, according to some witness accounts he threatened Bandari players and was wrestled down by a member of the Dockers’ technical bench as captured by renowned photojournalist Stafford Ondego.
According to a Facebook fan, Mus Jo, the man is familiar rubble rouser.
“I remember at Ruaraka grounds during Zoo’s last game against Tusker the guy tried to cause trouble and was almost thrown out, we know him very well,” Mus commented.
In 2016, a soldier brandished his gun after chaos ensued during a KPL match involving AFC Leopards and Ulinzi Stars at Mumias Complex.
Fans are now calling on KPL management to ensure that they are safe while out enjoying the game and no such life threatening incidences reoccur in future.
