Police Service bosses are allegedly demanding that officers make contributions towards the establishment of Utumishi Girls’ Academy, Gilgil.

The issue is said to have been discussed during the school’s form one selection admission meeting at the Police headquarters.

Members in attendance are said to have agreed that ‘every serving officer will contribute Sh1,000 for a period of ten months, meaning that they will be give Sh100 every month.

The monies will be contributed through the check off system, a memo dated 7, December indicated.

The money amounting to Sh60 million will be used to ‘construct two classes, a dormitory, kitchen and initial administration office at proposed Utumishi Girls next to the boys school.

The memo directs that all officers be informed of the decision met for ‘records and action accordingly.’

Question then remains, why was the decision taken without the officers’ consent? And why isn’t the government taking it upon itself to develop the school?
