To boost compliance, KRA will on August 31, deactivate taxpayers who are yet to register to iTax Systems.
The systems were put in place to eace access to the taxpayer ledger. This includes access by employees on their PAYE deductions
In a public notice, KRA noted that there are taxpayers who have not updated their PINs into iTax while other taxpayers who are already on iTax are either not filing or those in active businesses are filing nil or no returns at all.

The move his to compel non-compliant taxpayers to file their returns as the deactivated PINs cannot transact any business until they are activated.
In an effort to get more people to file returns, they increased the fine for those not filing returns on time or at all from Sh1,000 to Sh20,000.
