At least 10 people have died after a trailer and 2NK shuttle collided at Kikopey along the busy Nakuru-Nairobi highway on Friday morning.

According to Gilgil police boss Emmanuel Opuru emergency teams are headed to scene of accident.

“All the eleven passengers in the matatu that include six women and five men died on the spot while the driver of the truck escaped soon after the accident.

The information we are getting is that the truck started swaying from one side of the road to the other before hitting the matatu and the other vehicles,” he said.

It is reported that the trailer lost control ramming into six vehicles instantly killing all the 14 occupants of the shuttle.

Victims are apparently still trapped in the wreckage.

The trailer driver survived the ordeal but fled the scene. Police are searching for him.

The bodies have been taken to Gilgil Sub-county Hospital mortuary.
