Ten people were on Sunday injured after two rival groups clashed over leadership wrangles at Ngucui AIPCA church in Mwea, Kirinyaga County.
Reports indicate among those nursing injuries is the church pastor.
The groups are said to have descended on each other with blows and kicks after they allegedly disagreed on who to lead the Sunday service.
According to eye witness account, one group led by Archdeacon John Kamau and the other by Archdeacon Naftali Mwangi engaged in an exchange of words before the situation got out of hand.
The worshipers reportedly attacked one another with some hurling stones at their rivals.
It took the intervention of the local chief and police officers to contain the messy situation.
Archdeacon Kamau suffered head injuries after he was allegedly struck with a shephered staff.
He accused his rival Archdeacon Mwangi of attacking him as he tried to get him out of the church.

Archdeacon Mwangi has since denied the accusations.
Sources say the group led by Mwangi is pro Bishop Julius Njoroge while Kamau’s group is supporting Fredrick Wang’ombe.
The church has reportedly been closed till the rival groups settle the matter at hand, that has paralyzed operations in the church.
