A parliamentary house committee has backed the motion for the date of elections in Kenya to be changed from the first Tuesday of August to the third Monday of December.
The Bill was presented back in March by Kiminini MP Chris Wamalwa who suggested the new date so as to give school candidates time to start and finish their exams without interruptions.
For the election date to be changed, the bill has to be supported by two thirds of Parliament, that is by 233 members of parliament.
This is the second time the motion is being brought to the floor as it was previously presented to Parliament by Ugenya MP David Ochieng back in 2015 but it failed after not receiving enough support.
