A driver died on Wednesday morning after his lorry went up in flames following a head-on collision with a truck at Kenani area near Mtito Andei on the Nairobi-Mombasa highway.
Confirming the incident, Makueni Police Commander Joseph Naipeyan said the driver was burned beyond recognition.
The officer said one of the drivers was trying to avoid a pothole when the two lorries collided.

Following the accident, a heavy traffic snarl up was experienced in the area.
However, police, who responded took control of the situation.
The remains of the deceased were taken to Makindu Hospital Mortuary.

The incident comes barely a month after another accident in the area claimed three lives and left one injured.
The May 3 accident involved a saloon car and a truck.
According to a police statement, a Nairobi-bound private car crashed head-on with the oncoming truck.
All the three victims were travelling in the saloon car.

In yet another separate incident, an accident at Masimba area along the Nairobi-Mombasa road claimed three lives and left several injured.
The accident involved a 14 seater matatu and a lorry which collided head-on.
