‘Neither ODM Nor Odinga Sent Jakakimba To Zimbabwe,’ Oduor Ong’wen Says

Orange Democratic movement (ODM) executive director Oduor Ong’wen has refuted claims that former personal assistant to Raila Odinga, Silas Jakakimba went to Zimbabwe on the former prime minister’s behalf.

He said that Jakakimba was not sent as a representative for ODM or Odinga although he is known to him.

“Jakakimba travelled to Harare on his own volition and was neither representing the party nor the party leader. Although he is known to Raila, he is neither an employee of ODM nor of the Raila Odinga Secretariat,” the executive director said.

The former personal aide to Raila Odinga had claimed that he had been sent to convey a message of goodwill to the opposition party by the former prime minister.

He denied claims by Zimbabwean police that he incited supporters to refuse the electoral results. He said he was received at the airport by the late oppostion’s leader Morgan Tsvangirai’s wife.

Zimbabwean police through the senior assistant Charity Charamba was quoted by the daily mail newspaper asking citizens to provide any information they might have on Jakakimba.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is keen to interview Silas Jakakimba, a Kenyan national, in connection with the disturbances which occurred in Harare on August 1.” the statement read
