Oburu Odinga has claimed his cousin Jakoyo Midiwo was a beneficiary of the rigged 2013 ODM nominations.

Odinga said that together with some ODM party members, they schemed to rig the nominations in favor of the Gem MP.

In 2013, Elisha Odhiambo – currently ODM Gem MP candidate – was denied the ticket which handed Midiwo a third term in office.

Oburu, applauded Odhiambo for standing by the party despite the turn of events.

“He conceded defeat. Midiwo should follow cue this time after losing to the same candidate.”

“The National Assembly deputy minority leader’s chances of recapturing the seat are nil,” he said during a rally in Gem on Tuesday.

“Jakoyo should forget about recapturing his seat since he has fallen out with ODM party.”

Oburu urged his cousin to learn from him as he conceded defeat in the Bondo MP race against incumbent Gideon Ochanda.

“If I ceded ground and accepted defeat when nobody would have done nothing if I chose to say, why not our disgruntled colleagues?”

The politician said independent candidates were in a rush to make selfish decisions.

He said he will not engage Midiwo in an unnecessary public spat like the latter.

“Jakoyo is like my son. He grew up in my house.”

Midiwo decamped from ODM and is defending his seat as an independent candidate.

The Gem legislator is supporting Rarieda MP Nicholas Gumbo for Siaya governor whereas Oburu’s camp supports incumbent Cornel Rasanga.

Jakoyo will have to prove himself as he now does not have ‘Baba’s’ backing.
