No Kenyan Injured, Dead in Turkey, Syria Earthquake – Diaspora Affairs PS

Diaspora Affairs Public Secretary (PS) Roseline Njogu says no Kenyan has been reported injured or dead in the earthquake in Turkey and Syria.

Njogu noted that the Kenyan Embassy in Turkey has not recorded any fatalities or injuries, adding that those affected can reach the embassy at +90(538)502 0960.

“Following today’s tragic earthquake in Turkey and N. Syria, @KenyaEmbAnkara confirms no reports of any Kenyan dead or injured. Kenyans affected by this earthquake can call the embassy hotline at +90(538)502 0960, email or DM us at @Diaspora_KE cc @ForeignOfficeKE,” she tweeted.

“Such a tragedy this #earthquake is for Turkey and Syria. Our deepest condolences to you. Our thoughts, prayers, and love for the bereaved families and hope for recovery for the injured.”

A massive magnitude 7.8 earthquake that shook the two countries on Monday night resulted in at least 4,372 fatalities as of Tuesday morning.

Yunus Sezer, the chief of Turkey’s disaster services, revealed that 2,921 people had died in Turkey while 15,834 others had sustained injuries.

At least 2,834 buildings were destroyed, according to Sezer, who also noted that authorities gave residents refuge all night.

Officials have documented 3,531 injuries and 1,451 fatalities in Syria.
