The National Super Alliance (NASA) has written to the governors whose counties have adopted the People’s Assembly, requesting for a venue for their leader, Raila Odinga’s swearing in ceremony.

Odinga is according to the Assumption of Office Committee going to take oath office on December 12, despite intimidation of some of its members by the government.

The opposition has written to 11 governors; Anyang’ Nyong’o (Kisumu), Charity Ngilu (Kitui), Hassan Joho (Mombasa), Cornel Rasanga (Siaya), Cyprian Awiti (Homa Bay), Amason Kingi (Kilifi), Okoth Obado (Migori), Kivutha Kibwana (Makueni), Odeke Ojaamong (Busia), Wycliffe Oparanya (Kakamega) and Wilber Ottichilo (Vihiga).

”Your county having passed the People’s Assembly motion, the presidential inauguration team is requesting your office to provide a venue for this high level event in your county,” the letters read in part.

“It’s our hope that our request meets your kind consideration. Looking forward to hearing from you.”

The opposition on Friday named a People’s Assembly steering committee that will push its restoring democracy, just governance, leadership agenda.

Odinga’s party has vowed not to recognize President Uhuru Kenyatta as the legitimate head of state. They have however maintained that they are open to dialogue on electoral reforms that will lead to another election.

Elections in Kenya, they say have predetermined outcomes and as such will fight for electoral justice.

Should the people’s assembly successfully install Odinga to power, he will be in contravention of the Constitution Article 3(2), which states ‘Any attempt to establish a government otherwise than in the compliance with this constitution is unlawful.’
