Money meant for Nairobi County Bursary fund has been traced to an offshore account held by Maryland University in Australia.
The Sh.297 million reportedly remained in the account for over a month.
“People took the money and deposited it in Maryland’s account for over a month before the money came. So we want to know who sent the money there and for what, and who returned the money on June 4,” Minority Whip Peter Imwatok said.
The Australian University, Imwatok said opened the account for funds for the establishment of Dandora Primary School.
The House Education Committee chair, Millicent Mugadi admitted to the monies having been mistakenly deposited into the account but paybacks are being processed.
“The bank received the money on Monday and is currently printing 10, 000 cheques daily and by the end of this week, all the cheques will be ready,” she told the house.

But Umoja II Ward MCA Joseph Ndonji dismissed Ms Mugadi’s claims and wondered how people who have worked at city hall for the past 5 years made the mistakes.
“Same staff have been doing the work for the past five years and have not been making the mistakes so that is a lame excuse. Moreover, all counties have been given out their money except for Nairobi yet we are also being served by the same office,” said Mr Ndonji.
