The National Assembly is pushing for the investigation of the Kenya Forest Service (KFS) chairman, Peter Kinyua by the Ethics and Anti- Corruption Commission (EACC) for allowing his wife to run a private hotel (The River Café) inside Karura Forest.
Parliament’s Environment and Natural Resources Committee is accusing Mr Kinyua of going against the Public Officer Ethics Act of 2003 and want the EACC to investigate him for possible conflict of interest in running a private hotel in the forest and the abuse of office.
Mr Kinyua has defended himself saying that the River Cafe was started before he rose to the position of chairman and even upon his promotion, he had declared his association to the hotel.
The KFS Chairman is also being accused of an illegality in the collection of revenues and abusing his office by suspending KFS officers without following stipulated process as stated in the KFS Human Resource Manual.
If found guilty, Mr Kinyua would be barred from holding any public office.
