moi universityMoi University is recruiting a Vice Chancellor (VC) and has shortlisted eight candidates including acting VC, Prof Laban Ayiro who took over from Prof Richard Mibey, who’s term lapsed in 2016.

Also making the cut is; Prof J Chacha, Prof Isaac Kosgei, Prof Ann Nangulu, Prof Maurice Amutabi, Prof Isaac Kibaage ,Prof Joseph Rotich and Prof Samuel Gudu of the newly Chattered Rongo University.

“The following individuals are invited for the interview at Moi University, Main Campus in Kesses on Monday, November, 27, 2017,” reads an advertisement by Dr Jeremiah Ntoloi Koshal.

Prof Ayiro’s appointment by CS Education, Dr Fred Matiang’i was met with a lot of animosity from area leaders who sought to politicize the issue.

The acting VC has had his term extended twice this year alone. In September, the CS added six months to his appointment.

Uasin Gishu Governor, Jackson Mandago and Elgeyo Marakwet counterpart, Alex Tolgos opposed Ayiro’s appointment as he was an ‘outsider.’

Alex Kosgei, they said was the ‘best man for the job’ saying that he (Ayiro) was soft spoken and had not applied for the post.

“When he went for the interview at Egerton University, he emerged number two and when he came to Moi University, he was number one. We are saying there will be no graduation without Prof Kosgei,” they said.
