The High Court in Nairobi has sentenced the principal secretary for defense Saitoti Torome to six months in civil jail.
The court said that the the PS had failed to enforce a court order directing him to pay 17.2 million to a family.
The family which was represented by the estate administrator said that they gave out their estate to the government and the PS was directed to enforce payment. The land was given in 2006.
Justice Joseph Sergon gave the sentence stating the the PS had neglected and /or refused to settle the amount forcing the applicants to take out the contempt proceedings.

This is not the first time that Saitoti Torome has failed to enforce a court order, earlier this month the defense PS risked facing civil jail after it emerged that his lawyers and the attorney general had failed to appear in court to explain why they had stalled in awarding Kay construction a contractor his payment of sh.1 billion even though he was aware that the payment was pending.
