Migori county government loses Sh800million annually, which is more than entire county health department budget due to poor sanitation in the county.

The major cause of the loss is diseases caused by lack of proper toilets in homesteads and untreated water supply to the residents, experts have said.

Tom Odhon’g, the county Deputy Public Health Officer said 36 percent of Migori residents still defecate openly.

“Improving sanitation and hygiene not only generates considerable economic benefits, but makes  better living environment,” Odhon’g said.
