No matter how many public meetings they have nothing will change between President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, Nyeri Town MP Ngunjiri Wambugu has asserted.
According to the legislator in the Kieleweke Team, an anti-Ruto camp, the Annexe meeting held at the DP’s office on Tuesday will only bring change should the hustler stop fighting the war against corruption and embraces the handshake.
“All that I can say is that no matter how many public meetings they have nothing will change between them unless/until (i) Ruto stops his opposition to the fight against corruption, and (ii) Ruto genuinely embraces the ‘handshake’,” Wambugu wrote on Facebook.
He further reiterated that one of three things will happen; either the head of state will change his firm stand on corruption, Ruto will embrace the graft war or the status quo will remain.
The closed door meeting at the DP’s office was apparently held to calm the political tensions within the ruling party especially with Uhuru’s State of the Nation Address fast approaching.
It is said that a section of Jubilee MPs rallying behind the DP could be plotting to interrupt the April 4 joint Parliamentary sitting.
As a result, Jubilee party leadership led by Majority leader Aden Duale requested for a Parliamentary group meeting, an idea he (Uhuru) shut down. Instead, he advised Duale to call for a Kamkunji – an informal PG meeting.
This also comes days after the DP’s rivals led by Siaya Senator James Orengo have made known their intention to impeach him.
On what grounds? They say that Ruto has been mentioned in multiple graft cases, admission of land grabbing in the Weston Hotel, misleading information on the Sh21 billion dams scandal and many of his contradicting public messages.
“The DP has been speaking at cross purposes with the President and made statements that have later turned out to be false. We are dealing with someone who has been misleading the country; in other jurisdictions he would have resigned,” Cherangany MP Joshua Kuttuny said.
