Masaba Hospital founder Dr Geoffrey Joel Momanyi, the man remembered to have killed the career of Justin Muturi in the courts, died and will be buried this weekend.
Dr Momanyi and his late wife, Felgona sued Muturi after they recorded him demanding Ksh 1 million bribe to rule in their favour in a corruption case lodged against them by the NHIF.
Muturi was acquitted of the charges but the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) did reinstate him, ending his career as the then Principal Magistrated and forcing him to venture into business and politics.
The couple was arraigned in court in July 28, 1995 on charges of defrauding the NHIF an amount of Sh347, 000. The current speaker of the National Assembly was trying to influence the Criminal Case No. 2782/95 which the couple faced.
Muturi was arraigned before the then feared Nairobi Senior Principal Magistrate Uniter Kidullah where he was represented by advocates S. Ndungi and Onyango Otieno. He was released on a Sh300, 000 cash bail and ordered to deposit his passport and other travel documents in court.
