Marie Stopes has suspended abortion services in Kenya after an order by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board (KMPDB) demanded them to do so.
The clinic will however remain open and will continue offering essential family planning, maternal health and general medical services, according to a statement sent to newsrooms.
“We can confirm that Marie Stopes Kenya has suspended safe abortion services at the request of the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board,” said Marie Stopes Kenya Director Dana Tilson through the statement.
Mid this month, Marie Stopes was banned by the Medical Practitioners and Dentists Board from conducting abortions in Kenya.
The board further advised the health service provider against publishing misleading information on its website.
Marie Stopes was also directed to submit, within 60 days, a report of the reviewed guidelines “to conform with the law.”
