Police in Kirinyaga have a launched a manhunt for a suspect who hacked his five-year-old son to death and left his daughter with injuries after an argument over Sh135 balance.
Reports indicate the 36-year-old man sent the young boy to a shop with a Sh200 note to purchase household items – milk, sukumawiki, tomatoes and other items – and expected Sh135 balance, but the boy returned Sh35.
According to the man’s wife Madrine Wanja, his husband got angry clobbering the boy before strangling him to death.
Thereafter, the man turned to his 7-year-old daughter, hit her on the head, before escaping.
“I had gone to the farm and I heard the children screaming. When I rushed to the house I met my son lying on the floor while my daughter was in a bad condition,” said Ms Wanja.
Area chief Joseph Kariuki Ndege confirmed the incident, saying police have launched investigations into the incident.

The injured girl was rushed to Kimbimbi Sub-County Hospital where she is recuperating.
The body of the deceased was moved to Kerugoya Referral Hospital mortuary.
