The Anti-Counterfeit Authority (ACA) has arrested five suspects and confiscated Ksh8 million worth of fake mobile phones during a raid.
According to the authorities, other accessories including chargers, phone covers, batteries and earphones were also confiscated.
The authorities raided shops in Nairobi’s Luthuli Avenue after receiving complaints from phone manufacturer Samsung.
Speaking after the crackdown, the ACA Chief Inspector Ibrahim Bule urged other brand manufacturers to raise an alarm against counterfeit products.
Inspector Bule noted: “This is a crackdown that will continue. The agency has now focused completely on cracking down on all illicit and counterfeit products and will get rid of all of them from the market.”

Some of the counterfeit devices seized included brands like HTC, Nokia, Samsung, Huawei and Sony.
The suspects are currently being held at the Central Police Station, Nairobi.
The officers noted that the five arrested will aid police in investigations.
