Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) is currently undergoing a crisis after 700 staff at the hospital boycotted their duties and demanded for the reinstatement of their colleague.
They said that they would not be able to work without their lecturers who are their supervisors because they do not get protection after mistakes such as the brain surgery happens. The lecturers who also are the supervisors are currently on a nationwide strike.
The Registrar doctors are the backbone of the referral hospital as they provide a huge percentage of the work force.

The boycotted was supported by the chairman of the Kenya Medical practitioners pharmacists and dentist Union Chairman Samuel Oroko. He said that the suspension of the CEO Lily Koros and the neurosurgeon would not solve the problems at East Africa’s referral hospital.
He said that the brain surgery mishap was just one of the issues that the hospital goes through daily. He said children and patients die daily due to inadequate staff.
“What has happened is just a tip of the iceberg. KNH is a dead hospital. The system is not functional. We lose a number of babies because there are no doctors. We lose a number of patients in the hospital because there are not enough workers,” Chairman Samuel Oroko stated.
The Hospital and its staff have been on the limelight after a mix up where a brain surgery was conducted on a wrong patient. there have also been on the limelight after achild was kidnapped within the hospital premises and also accusations of lactating mothers being raped by mortuary attendants.
