Kitui County Government has been left in shock after one of its officials was found dead in a thicket.
Benjamin Muema Kinyali’s body is reported to have been found at a forest near Kwa Vonza, 25 kilometers from Kitui town.
According to the Daily Nation, the deceased’s body had burns on the chest and hands by the time it was discovered.
His body was discovered on Wednesday afternoon by passers-by in Kavou village who alerted police officers from Itoleka Police Station in Katulani Sub-County.
Kinyali, who is stated to have been an avid supporter of Kitui Governor Charity Ngilu, was an official with National Youth Council in Kitui County.
The youth leader was last seen on Tuesday evening drinking at Vanilla’s Bar in Kitui town with friends until 11pm.
He is reported to have been dropped at his residence by his friends that evening.
According to reports, the authorities have arrested and interrogated seven suspects in connection to the murder.
His wife is among those arrested as the officials seek to question her to establish Mr Kinyali’s last movements from the time he arrived home on Tuesday night.

Kinyali’s killers are believed to have placed a used car tyre on his chest and doused his body in petrol then set it ablaze.
Speaking on the cruel murder, Kitui County National Youth Council (NYC) Chairman Aggrey Nzomo called upon the relevant authorities to investigate the cause of Kinyali’s brutal death.
“We pray that justice will be served to the family and friends,” he mentioned.
Expressing his condolences, Nzomo described Kinyali as “a youth leader with outstanding leadership qualities.
“He was a hardworking youth whose generosity and integrity will remain as his key definition,” Nzomo added.
Prior to his appointment at the county government, Kinyali worked as a procurement officer.
He was a Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT) alumni.
