Kisumu County government in conjunction with a civil society group will erect a monument in remembrance of post election protest victims at the Jomo Kenyatta Sports ground.
Steve Ouma, Pamoja Trust CEO said the decision was reached after the Jubilee government failed to reproach the ‘trigger happy police officers’ who maimed and killed Kenyans.
”We have agreed with the County Government of Kisumu to have a memorial in respect to all those who were killed and maimed during the violence that happened in August and October.
”It is sad that while it is well-known that the police were responsible for the incidents, the government has failed to come out to condemn them, therefore we must have this monument,” Mr Ouma said.
The monument, Mr Ouma added would resemble the one at the Freedom Corner, and its main aim is to cause the government to apologize to the people.

”The reasons why we need this monument apart of honouring the innocent citizens is to pass the message that what happened was a shame to any civil society. With the monument in place we expect the government to come out and apologize to Kisumu people,” he added.
The civil society CEO says that in Kisumu alone, 61 people were killed.
Opposition leader, Raila Odinga while compensating families of some of the victims said that they have lost 215 of their supporters between August and November.
