Former Kakamega senator Boniface Khalwale has accused the county and National government of turning Uhuru Highway into a cash minting cow under the premise of ‘Beautification.’
He has highlighted that during Alfred Mutua’s stint as government spokesperson, millions of shillings were poured into the beautification of the Highway. According to the Business Daily, the Nairobi City Council spent about Sh300 million on beautification projects between 2003 and 2006.
Kenyans complained as to why large amounts of money were being used on beautification yet they would with time be defaced.
This same project was undertaken under the Evans Kidero led county government under a project dabbed ‘Kidero grass.’ The grass was planted a week before former USA president Barack Obama’s visit to Kenya.

The former senator said that the grass was no longer existent, so as the trees that had been planted. He has alluded that the cutting of the trees is in preparation for another ‘beautification project’ that will only have the taxpayer dig deeper into their pockets.
