Kenya 15s rugby team, Simbas, are stranded in Nairobi as their trip to France looks impossible as the Cabinet Secretary Rashid Echesa and his Principal Secretary Kirimi Kaberia continues to ignore and show cold shoulder to the club officials.
According to anonymous sources, the club presented a budget which was approved in March 2018 and updated the Ministry of Sports which even gave approval on August 15th and further confirmed on 9th October that the team will be given Ksh 15 million to travel to France for the World Cup qualifiers.
Now it looks like the 40 member team will not make it to France for the three scheduled games on 11th, 12th and 23rd of November. The funding was also to enable the team to play a friendly match in Romania before proceeding to France.
Calls and text messages to CS Rashid Echesa and PS Kabefria are not being answered as both play cat and mouse with team and Kenya Rugby Union officials.
Now the team is pleading to the President and his deputy to intervene and save the situation as officials who should be responsible are not responding to them.
The team was scheduled to depart the country on Wednesday 31st October at 7PM for France.
